"Alyssum"; away from madness
Alyssum offers short term crisis respite for individuals desiring an alternative approach and connection with peers. The program relies on self-direction and self-motivated exploration of new ways to look at trauma and life.
Our 2 bed home-like sactuary is located in the village of Rochester, VT at 927 Route 100 North. We are just 1 mile north of the town green and are easily accessed from all directions.
A change of perspective about mental health, an embrace of peer support, and an exploration of the impact of trauma.
The opportunity to be validated; to reflect and to connect with others in a non-judgmental and safe environment.
Development of new tools and new world views through connection, mutual support and a broader outlook.
Opportunity to work with Alyssum's well trained and diverse staff, who freely share their experiences and learned wisdom of recovery.
Activities at Alyssum include cooking, arts & crafts, reflection and self-healing through writing, nature and outdoor activities such as walking, hiking and biking.
Support groups, training and community space.
We have various art supplies and craft projects available for guests who want to keep their hands busy, as well as an interesting library and movie selection. Alyssum staff also work to provide alternative healing opportunities such as meditation, yoga and energy healing.
Whether engaging in activities or simply sitting and talking, Alyssum staff spend most of their time every day listening and sharing. A guest may expect to focus on their desired goals, whether it is building mindfulness or perhaps looking at their homelife and support system. We work together with our guests to focus on the issues which need attention and encourage our guests to set the pace and direction. We acknowledge that we are a short term respite and frequently spend time trying to improve a guest's support system for when they return home.
"I found Alyssum house to be a very cool healing environment in the country in Rochester, VT. It is peer run and incorporates alternative healing modalities such as yoga, meditation, reiki, massage, and nature walks.
The staff at Alyssum are open minded and spiritual.
After spending two weeks in a crisis bed, then 2 weeks in a hospital,
the real healing began when I came to Alyssum." ~ Dana
